Event Information
All colleagues and students are invited to join us for the inaugural Disability History Month Lecture as we openly explore our commitment to disability and neurodiversity inclusion here at the University of Reading.
Our guest speaker is Dr Hamied Haroon, who brings a wealth of expertise in advancing Diversity and Inclusion in higher education institutions through his role as Founder and Chair of the National Association of Disabled Staff Networks and ex-Chair of the University of Manchester’s Disabled Staff Network.
The event will be chaired by the UEB’s Diversity Champion for Disability Professor Elizabeth McCrum. There will also be an update on the Disability and Neurodiversity Review from the Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, Dr Allán Laville, and an in-depth discussion featuring a panel of colleagues:
- Kevin Flint, Staff Disability Network
- Sophie Flecknell, RUSU Disabled Students’ Officer
- Tharindu Liyanagunawardena, Digital Accessibility Officer
The online lecture is open to all colleagues and students, but booking is essential. BSL interpreters and automatic captioning will be present during this event.
We strongly encourage all colleagues and students to engage with this vital discussion which will ask us all to consider how we can better contribute to progressing disability and neurodiversity inclusion within our University community, both individually and collectively. Join us in the conversation and pre-submit your questions for the panel on the booking form.
UK Disability History Month 2022 takes place from Wednesday 16 November to Friday 16 December with the theme Disability, Health and Well Being.
