If you haven’t applied to university before

If you haven’t applied to university earlier in the year, you will need to provide some information on the UCAS website, including a personal statement and a reference. You can do this at any point – you don’t have to wait for Clearing to start.

If you’ve previously applied to university

If you applied earlier in the year, UCAS already has all your information. Therefore, you can move straight to contacting universities directly to find out if you’re eligible for an offer.

Please only choose one of these contact methods. Phoning us means that you can find out quickly if we are able to make you an offer. If you apply online you may need to wait a little while to hear back from us, but we will be in touch as quickly as we can. Visit our guidance on how to fill in our application form if you need help.

You will need to provide us with your qualification results (both your A levels or equivalent and your GCSEs or equivalent). Your results will be verified later and you risk losing your place if you misrepresent them when applying.

If the course you’re interested in is not available, we’ll suggest alternatives that you may be interested in (if we are speaking to you on the phone) or make you an offer for an alternative (if you apply online).

Please be aware that if you applied to study at the University of Reading earlier in the year and we rejected you following a portfolio/interview process or on receipt of your final results, you cannot re-apply for the same course. However, you are welcome to apply for any other course that you’re qualified for.

If you meet the entry requirements for your chosen course, you’ll receive an offer.

If you meet the entry requirements for your chosen course, we’ll make you an offer. For a small number of courses, you may need to submit a portfolio or talk to a member of academic staff on the phone before a decision can be made. If that’s the case, we’ll tell you how to do this.

We may make you a verbal offer on the phone, but it will be followed up by an email with all the information you need for your next steps. This includes an invitation to visit the campus (if you apply on 14 August).

You can apply to as many universities as you want, although we strongly recommend you apply to only one course at the University of Reading. Once you have all your offers, you can only choose to accept one of them. This is called referring yourself.
